Bangladesh Dental College: A Legacy of Excellence in Dental Education and Care

Founded in 1996 by a group of dedicated and visionary individuals, Bangladesh Dental College has stood as a beacon of quality dental education, research, and healthcare for nearly three decades. With a steadfast commitment to serving the people of Bangladesh, the College has consistently provided excellent dental education, research, and clinical services at an affordable cost. The College and its affiliated Hospital operate under the Bangladesh Medical Studies and Research Institute (BMSRI), a non-political and non-profit organization. Members of the Institute dedicate themselves solely to public service, with no entitlement to remuneration or dividends.

Objectives of the Institute

The core objectives of the Bangladesh Medical Studies and Research Institute are:

  • To advance education in dental sciences, leading to recognized undergraduate degrees.
  • To conduct meaningful research on oral health diseases prevalent within the country.
  • To promote research in dental health education with the aim of raising the standard of dental education across Bangladesh.

A Storied History of Excellence

Since its inception in 1996, Bangladesh Dental College has been at the forefront of dental education in the country. Since its inception, Bangladesh Dental College has consistently produced over 2,000 skilled dental professionals, contributing significantly to the country’s and the global dental healthcare system.

With nearly three decades of educational excellence, the College has earned a distinguished reputation for producing well-trained, competent dental practitioners who serve communities both in Bangladesh and abroad.

The establishment of a Dental College that imparts top class dental education leading to a recognized degree was the Institute’s primary vision. Through the relentless efforts of its founding members, this dream was realized in the face of significant opposition, when the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh granted permission for the creation of the College.

Institutional Milestones

Bangladesh Dental College commenced operations in June 1998, following its affiliation with Dhaka University in February 1997. The College was swiftly recognized by the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council, and the first cohort of students appeared for the 1st Professional BDS Examination of the University of Dhaka in June 1998.

Hospital and Training Facilities

The College is complemented by an advanced hospital equipped with both indoor and outdoor dental facilities, providing invaluable training to students and intern doctors. The hospital accommodates 52 inpatients, with dedicated general beds and cabins reserved exclusively for Bangladesh Dental College. Well-equipped and designed to provide comprehensive care, the hospital delivers quality healthcare services to the public at affordable rates. The hospital’s team of highly qualified and committed doctors and staff ensures the delivery of excellent services to the community.
